Our approach to teaching children & young people with SEN
Inclusive education means supporting all pupils to learn, contribute and participate in all aspects of school life alongside their peers. Our curriculum includes, not only the formal requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum / National Curriculum, but also a range of additional opportunities to enrich the experiences of all pupils.
The Curriculum also included the social aspects that are essential for lifelong learning, personal growth and development of independence. This includes:
- Using a range of teaching and learning styles.
- Differentiated learning materials.
- Access to ICT and Technology.
- Additional in class support.
- Additional out of class support at less structured times including Opal Play.
- Flexible groupings – including small group support work.
- An innovative and supportive curriculum including Commando Joe and Happy Centred schools
- The appropriate use of school rewards.
- Mentoring and counselling
- A range of extra-curricular activities.
At Ludworth Primary School we ensure pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum or the National Curriculum at their level and pace. We make sure teaching staff are aware of these needs and adapt learning to be sensitive to them. All children are included in all school activities so they can gain confidence, become more independent and share their achievements.
This is in partnership with parents, children, and outside agencies working alongside the child. The teacher will make an early identification of need and can plan and provide extra support as and when needed. The teacher will tailor and make suitable provision for children with SEND that promotes their own interests and abilities. We will review our provision and practise regularly to make sure we make our learning personal.
