Looked After Children with SEND
Our Head Teacher, Mrs Sones, is our Designated Teacher for Looked after Children who works closely with our SENCO to ensure all teachers in school understand the implications for those children who are looked after and have SEND. A significant amount of children may be undiagnosed when they begin to be looked after and we work quickly and effectively to assess any undiagnosed SEND to ensure that they are addressed as quickly as possible.
Regular discussions with carers and pupils are used to identify the individual needs of Looked after Children. These discussions cover both the social and academic needs of the pupil. These will be identified through SEND support plans.
All Looked After Children have a statutory Care Plan, which is drawn up and reviewed by the Local Authority that looks after them. The Personal Education Plan (PEP) is a legal part of the Care Plan; which is a statutory requirement for Looked After Children in education provision. Mrs Sones ensures that these children have a PEP which is also reviewed every term. The Support Plan and the PEP should complement each other. The Head Teacher and SENCO work close together to ensure this is achieved.
